The HP LaserJet 9000 monochromatic printer is a large work group printer priced around $2500.00. The HP 9000 series of printers is equipped with HP’s Instant-On technology providing faster first printed page times.

Although standard only with a parallel port an additional print server can be added to the base model via EIO slots. Powering the HP 9000 series printers is a 300 MHz processor coupled with a maximum 384 MB of RAM providing ample, and slightly above average, speed and memory for large work group printers. Media handling, which is better than average, can be upgraded to a capacity of 3,100 sheets via multiple expansion trays; some trays being standard on the n, dn, and hdn models. Finishing accessories for the series include a 3,000 sheet stapler/stacker, automatic duplexer for expanding lower end models, or an HP Fast Infrared receiver. Common to most printers in class is the option to add 5 GB hard drive can be added via one of the EIO slots for secure printing or storing specialized color schemes.

Equipped with HP’s FastRes 1200 technology allows the HP LaserJet 9000 to print in 1200 dpi resolution, even in edge to edge printing increasing the options on every model in the series.  Fast print speeds of up to 50 pages per minute over shadowing its competitors and, while being a fairly common trait in large work group printers, grayscale images can be produced in up to 220 shades.  Text is presented in uncommon clarity down to 4 point font sizes; however, italic fonts showed some feathering at these sizes.  Adding to these zippy print speeds and quality prints is a 300,000 page per month duty cycle while printing at a cost of $.02 per page.

Fast print speeds, image enhancement technology, above average image production and low cost per printed page provide consistent in house printing but at a high cost after upgrades and accessories.
