HP LaserJet P4014n
By KevinGman • Jul 24th, 2009 • Category: HP Monochrome Printer ReviewsThe HP LaserJet P4014n is a monochrome laser printer designed for small and medium offices with high-volume monochrome printing needs. Not only does it come out of the box ready to handle a large volume of printing, but it has many expansion options to keep up with the needs of a growing office.
Print speed is beyond impressive at around 45 pages per minute, making it one of the fastest printers on the market. This blazing fast speed seems to come at the cost of some quality, however, as print quality is somewhat below the norm for laser printers. Its printing flaws mainly show up in smaller font sizes, so this may not be an issue for most users. Graphics and photo printing are adequate, but not particularly impressive. As with most laser printers, the focus is on producing high-quality text.
Setup is easy, and even network sharing is simple to setup with the included ethernet port. The most difficult part of the setup process may be moving the unit into place, as it weighs a hefty 56 pounds. The printer is a little larger than some monochrome lasers, possibly due to its fast printing engine. Mac users will be glad to know that the printer supports Macs as well as Windows PCs.
The HP LaserJet P4014n has quite a bit of room for expansion with its optional upgrades. If the 500 sheet input tray and 100 sheet multipurpose tray are not enough, the printer can support two 500 sheet drawer or a 1,500 sheet drawer, which can be purchased separately. If duplexing (two-sided printing) is necessary, a duplexer can be added as well. Other add-on features include a stacker, a stapler-stacker, and a five bin mailbox for sorting.
Overall, the HP LaserJet P4014n is an extremely fast printer with good, but not great, print quality. Office users who need speed and expandability will find it a good match. Users who value the highest quality prints may wish to look elsewhere.
