The HP Color LaserJet 2605dtn is a color laser printer designed with the small or home office user in mind.  With networking, duplexing, and some bonus features like a memory card reader built in, it has a lot to offer.

The 2605dtn can function quite well as a personal printer or a shared printer for a network of users.  Its design is compact, and it only weighs around 52 pounds, allowing it to fit into a personal user’s office space quite easily.  With its built-in ethernet connection, however, it can also do an admirable job for multiple users on a network.  Further, it has two 250-sheet input trays, meaning it can handle a fair number of office users, though it is worth noting that the 2605dtn cannot be expanded for more paper capacity.  The memory can be expanded from its initial 64mb to as much as 320mb if desired.  The printer includes a web interface, which allows users to access the printer directly across the network and manage print jobs, change settings, and view the status of the unit.

The HP 2605dtn includes a few notable bonus features that make it more appealing.  First, it has built-in automatic duplex (two-sided) printing.  Second, the printer includes memory card slots for printing directly from memory cards.  While this is generally a feature seen in consumer machines, it may come in handy for some office users.

Print speeds are a bit slow, at 9 pages per minute black and 7 pages per minute color.  HP includes full capacity toner cartridges with the printer, rather than the “starter” cartridges included with many printers.  The HP 2605 toner is a bit on the expensive side, at around 3 cents per page in black and 4 cents for color.  However, toner can be found cheaper from other sources, reducing printing costs considerably.

Overall, the HP Color LaserJet 2605dtn is a well-designed color laser printer that walks the line between a consumer printer and a business printer.  Its capacity and speed are enough to handle a network of users, but features like memory card slots may appeal to home users as well.
