DEMOCR300 How to change the toner cartridge in the HP LaserJet 4710

Changing toner cartridges in a printer is not a difficult task, but there are things to keep in mind to make it easier, and knowing the correct process will keep  the cartridges and the printer from being damaged in the process.

Before we begin, just a few precautions to keep in mind.  First of all, the fuser inside the printer may be hot, especially if the printer was operating before beginning the toner replacement process.  Be careful not to touch any unnecessary parts to avoid any chance of being burned.  Second, be very careful with all toner cartridges, as toner can sometimes get on your hands or clothes.  In the event that toner ink gets on clothes, wipe it off quickly with a dry cloth, and be sure to wash clothes in cold water, as hot water will often set the stain.

Step 1: Lift the cover at the top of the front face of the printer.  Simply put your hand in the handle groove and lift the cover.

Step 2: Pull the lower front cover (right below the top cover) toward you.  The lower front cover also contains the transfer unit, which is very fragile.  Be sure not to place anything on it while working.

Step 3: The cartridges are clearly marked for their four separate colors of cyan, magenta, yellow, and black.  It is recommended that you replace one cartridge at a time to ensure cartridges do not get inserted into the wrong slot.  Remove one old cartridge from the printer by sliding it forward.  Match the color of the old and new cartridges to ensure the correct color is in the correct slot.

Step 4: Remove the new cartridge from the bag, and place the old cartridge in the bag for recycling, or to keep from getting ink on anything.

Step 5: Place the new cartridge in the slot that the old one just occupied, and slide it forward until it is fully seated.  If a cartridge is installed in the wrong slot, the printer will show an “Incorrect (Color) Cartridge” message.

Close the lower cover and the upper cover, and the control panel should display “Ready”.

If you are using HP-branded cartridges, the box will have instructions for recycling the old cartridge.  If not, find a recycling center that accepts toner cartridges to reduce waste.

When purchasing replacement toner cartridges, consider using third-party compatible cartridges instead of the more expensive HP-branded cartridges.  Using compatible HP 4710 toner cartridges could save as much as $664 every time you replace toner in the printer.  Buy from a reputable seller with a satisfaction guarantee, ensuring that compatible cartridges meet or exceed the quality of the OEM cartridges.
