HP LaserJet problems
By TechyLowell • Aug 6th, 2010 • Category: HP Printer Tech TipsWhen using your HP printer, you are destined to have a problem at some point or another. Sometimes these problems are simple, and can be fixed in a matter of moments, while some cause you to replace parts or the entire unit. Don’t worry though— most of these common HP problems can be fixed quickly and easily.
Are your prints too light? This usually means that your toner cartridge has expired. First, try to figure out how old the toner cartridge is. The UV lights that melt the toner can reduce the adhesion if enough time has passed. Take the cartridge out and shake it from side to side. After that, try printing again.
There is one other possible reason your prints are too light and that is that the darkness setting could be set incorrectly. Go into the menu option and move the lever to the highest setting. If neither this nor the new cartridge work, you probably have fuser problems, which means the fuser may need to be replaced.
Have spots on your printed documents? This is most likely caused by a full waste bin or a contaminated paper path. Use a Q-tip to trace the paper path for globs of toner. A good place to clean is the corona wires’ teeth. You can also try to clean the waste bin yourself (however, it is a very messy job.)
What about streaks? In order to fix this, you must take a look at your drum. If toner is clinging to it, the cartridge must be replaced because of contamination.
Do you have paper jams far too often? First, try cleaning your rollers with water. If that doesn’t work, it’s possible that a paper sensor is stuck. Using your manual, find each of the sensors and knock lose any particles that could be latching on to them. Try printing again.
Though there are a multitude of things that can go wrong with your LaserJet printer, these are the most common and easiest to fix.
